Wildwood General Information

Wildwood is an acoustic group originally formed in January, 2000 on the California Central Coast. We perform an upbeat mix of acoustic folk and bluegrass, from ballads to breakdowns. Wildwood is available to entertain at private parties, coffee shops, and saloons. We do tunes ranging from Bob Dylan to modern folk ballads of Townes Van Zandt, Michael Murphy, John Fogerty, Steve Goodman, and Jean Ritchie, traditional bluegrass of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, and Jim and Jesse, and progressive bluegrass of Del McCoury, Herb Pedersen, Country Gentlemen, and The Seldom Scene.

With Ron Miller onboard as the new lead vocal core of Wildwood '09 we're ready to re-take the Central Coast!

For bookings, please see contact information below.

Re-formed in 2009 when Ron Miller joined an ongoing musical partnership already in progress with Julio and Dan, our first performance in our new configuration was in June 2009 at the Slow Down Pub in Arroyo Grande. We're looking forward to many more and will see you soon.

Download Wildwood MP3 Files

Here are a *bunch* of MP3s we've gathered from bits and pieces of studio recording and rehearsal sessions as we worked toward our first CD completion and more recent new tunes with Ron Miller. These are excerpts so the download times will be fairly reasonable.

The first four of these are NEW MATERIAL by Ron, Julio, and Dan.

Peach Pickin' Time in Georgia by Clayton McMichen. Recorded originally when McMichen (formerly fiddle player for Gid Tanner and The Skillet Lickers) was with Jimmy Rogers in 1933. We learned it from a Doc Watson recording. Vocal by Dr. Dan and now with a Dobro solo :)

Shenandoah Waltz by C. Moody and C. Wise (Acuff-Rose Music). A terrific CD recording of this is on Mike Auldridge's 'Treasures Untold' (Sugar Hill Records, 1990). Julio on vocal and we added some harmony on the choruses.

Whisky Before Breakfast Traditional fiddle tune, now with Dobro and Banjo!

Little Georgia Rose by Bill Monroe. Julio on lead vocal and Ron and Dan on harmonies for the choruses and a capella intro.

And we've kept the good old ones we did back when Paul Beeler was here and we did the Out On A Limb CD.

Fireball by Buck Graves, Lester Flatt, and Earl Scruggs (Scruggs Music). Lots of great recordings of this. The first one I heard is on vinyl; an LP entitled Something Different (Josh Graves and Kenny Baker, Puritan #5001). Good luck finding that one! All Dobro players love to try this one.

Blue Water Levee by Paul Beeler (c)1992 by Paul Beeler. Here's a beautiful original ballad sung by the songwriter himself. Paul says he originally intended this as an up-tempo fast song, but changed his mind. We like it better as a ballad, too.

Bells of St. Mary's Here's a beautiful bit of banjo virtuosity played by Julio Boysenberry.

Across The Great Divide Words and music by Kate Wolf. Sung by Paul Beeler.

Kentucky Mandolin by Bill Monroe. We don't have a mandolin in the group, so you'll have to settle for Dan on Dobro and Julio on Banjo.

Blackjack County Chains by Red Lane. Paul sings this bluesy ballad we heard performed first by The Del McCoury Band.
